EOFY 2026: Don’t Risk Missing Your Super Tax Deduction
Critical Super Deadlines You Can’t Afford to Miss
When it comes to superannuation payments and EOFY tax planning, timing matters more than most realise.
For Businesses
If you are using Xero Auto Super (via SuperChoice), contributions follow a strict multi-day processing cycle. Missing key cut-off times can mean missing your tax deduction for the financial year.
Here is what you need to know:
- 4:00pm AEST is the daily cut-off to approve your super batch in Xero
- Approvals made after 4:00pm will not start processing until the next business day
Tip: Approve earlier in the day to avoid delays.
Once you approve a batch, the clearing process runs over several days:
- Day 0: Batch approved before 4:00pm; direct debit is initiated
- Days 1–3: Funds clear from your bank account (can take up to 3 business days)
- Day 4: SuperChoice sends funds and contribution data to super funds
- Days 5–7: Super funds allocate contributions to employee accounts
Total: 4 to 7 business days.
To claim a tax deduction for the 2025/2026 financial year:
- The super fund must receive the payment by 30 June 2026
- It is not based on when you process it in Xero
Because of the processing timeframe, Xero typically enforces an early June cut-off:
- Expected cut-off: around 24 June (2:00 pm AEST)
- Recommended cut-off: 18-20 June
Submitting after this point significantly increases the risk of missing your deduction. Other programs such as MYOB, QuickBooks have similar timelines.
For Individuals
For individuals, if you would like to make additional superannuation contribution, this will need to be deposited into the superannuation fund before 30 June 2026. If you have an industry/retail fund, this can take a few days to clear. We would recommend payments no later than the 20 June 2026.
If your superannuation balance is less than $500,000, then you may be able to make ‘catch-up’ deductible contributions into your superannuation fund prior to 30 June 2026.
